Nathan Smythe

Nathan Smythe.JPG (113143 bytes)

At age seven, Nathan had his first stage performance in an off, off-off Broadway production (local church) of a Joseph’s “coat of many colors” musical (not to be confused with that other Joseph colored-coat musical).  Despite an embarrassing night (he was the only performer on stage who had blue jeans sticking out below his Egyptian robes), Nathan was now bitten by the theatre bug.

After acting in small plays, skits, and choirs for years, Nathan got what he considered his first “legitimate” lead acting role at age eighteen as Tevye in PCT Main Stage’s teenager’s theatre production of Fiddler On The Roof in Plano, TX.  From there, he continued through to college with lead and supporting roles in many theatre productions, including The Music Man, Seven Brides For Seven Brothers, and God’s Country.  Also while in college, Nathan was a DJ for the local radio station, winning “Best Radio Announcer of the Year” for WACW in Lexington, KY.   Nathan finished his college education by attending the Los Angeles Film Studies Center.

One of his first Hollywood roles was as a swing dancer for Gilmore Girls. The show’s director, Kenny Ortega, treated Nathan and the other dancers so well that it encouraged him to tough it out in this often-rough industry.  Nathan met Peter Spellos while being a regular dance partner for Brittany Snow and Vanessa Lengies on TV’s American Dreams, and he joined Peter’s acting troupe soon afterward.  Aside from performing in numerous shows, films, and theatre productions, he has also recently been in two improv groups, One Size Fits All and Nothing Rhymes With Orange, and recorded voices for the anime series Fighting Spirit and the video game Victorious Boxers.

Nathan resides in Glendale with his wife and swing dance partner Ginger (of “Ginger & The Hoosier Daddies” swing band), where he also pursues writing, v/a editing, and collecting the original Transformers and Star Wars toys.
